JAN & Beyond IN REVIEW

Ok lets do this!
I have only neglected my blog-baby due to ‘intensity in 10 cities’. Well 3 anyway. But I’ve got a stoner style day up my sleeve to wax lyrical bout the last month not to mention catch yous up on the months to come.

Hooking back up with Auckland life has been a potent and sunny concoction with some nail-biting bits, post-Asia culture shocked vibrations and ‘can I do this’ inner-queries but I got synched up thanks to lots of love, some amazing projects and friends, new and old! Ah-yeah.

First things first:

This is my new zine-book. Its a mix of everything ever. You can buy it for $20 here:

I launched it at the FUCKING AMAZING Fresh Gallery, Otara run by one of my creative idols and peers Ema Tavola out South (home turf) and it was soooo gooood. We had an exhibition of images from the book too. There are art gallery people, curators and patrons who remind me of the cerebral dance teacher in Black Swan and there are people like Ema who pump nothing but effort and badd-gal energy into artists who don’t fit. I wanna thank her and Nicole Lim from the bottom of my heart for making my homecoming month and mahi so special.

Well after the weekend after the launch party we had a zine-making workshop at the gallery and it got booked out! Me and my friend Riki talked about our projects and ideas of what a zine can be (see: anything) and then worked with a whole bunch of cool participants making, crafting and talking about independent publishing all day. This is us tired and inspired, thumbz up homies!

Underground arty ziney southside aside, music shit is about to get real interesting too.

BAD ENERGY
Me and Sam are heading into the studio (sometimes his bedroom, sometimes a real studio) to get our record ‘Underwater Pyramids’ underway this summer. We have also recruited the talents of Melissa West (ex The Coolies, Wolfie) and the notorious Trixie (Curfew Girls, House of Hardout) to our trippy little team.
If you don’t know what the fuck I’m talking about go here

PARALLEL DANCE ENSSEMBLE
Well me and Bobbi Soxx are pretty much living in polar opposite world (he’s Denmark/LA, I’m more Asia/Pacific style, label is in Germany, manager is Grey Lynn bohemia). But through a series of long-distance miracles we finally have the album ‘Possessions and Obsessions’ coming out in a couple of months!! Its coming out on Permanent Vacation and obviously its gonna blow your face off and split your lip up. If you liked Weight Watchers and Run, trust me you aint seen shit. We are gonna start working on a vid in the next few weeks with my same crew of local misfits I think. The artwork for the record is supercute, I can’t wait for youz to see it.

MIXTAPE
Yeah as the heading implies, I’m doing a mixtape. Its gonna be one for da clurb and da car yeah yeah sure but one of the more interesting features is that its gonna feature some production by Flying Nun mystery-ish man Unknown Mortal Orchestra, who I dig hard-out. Which reminds me if you gotta beat you think I’d like, send it to me. (Brief: ‘you crazy for this one’ shit only please). Otherwise I’m just gonna go on famous banger-spree, yesss!

A.M.O.R
Oh my god AMOR are Honey and Violet from Lisbon, Portugal and they are the baddest bitches on the mic apart from yours truly, hair-flick. So omgeez we’ve made a track together!! It’s called We Geez and its a girl-gang slash cheerleading anthem lol. Amor have a new album coming out soon and its the first single so be patient

What else, moving into a new place over the next few weeks, playing a couple of shows this summer including the mammoth Homegrown and generally everyday I’m hustle-ing hustle-ing so I can enjoy some time back in Europe! France, Germany and Spain – look the fuck out.

For now I’m just a down-ass girl back home lol
Holla.
